San Vicente del Raspeig Town Hall will temporarily adjust the use of Selective Organic Fraction (SOF) containers to optimise the selective collection system and ensure proper treatment of organic waste.
According to the Urban Services Councillor, Antonio Díaz, this measure will restrict access to these containers exclusively to major organic waste producers, such as educational centres, residences, collective dining facilities, hospitality establishments, and supermarkets. Locks will be installed on the containers, which can be opened with a key.
"With this action, we aim to ensure more efficient collection, reduce costs, and improve the quality of waste destined for composting," stated Díaz, who reminded that this decision is part of the municipal commitment to advance environmental goals set at both local and European levels.
The Urban Services department has expressed gratitude to residents who already correctly separate their waste and has issued a new call for citizen collaboration, which is key to further improving the management of public services.
Díaz emphasised that "this is not a step back, but a necessary step to consolidate a more efficient, sustainable, and environmentally friendly selective collection model."
Additionally, the Town Hall is working on gradually opening this system to all citizens interested in actively participating in the proper management of organic waste.
