One of La Nucía's heritage jewels, the Font de la Favara washhouse, has suffered vandalism resulting in the destruction of part of its roof, which was recently restored and recovered by the local council.
The mayor himself, Bernabé Cano, explained the incident in a statement, confirming that "unfortunately, yesterday we discovered that heavy stones were thrown onto the washhouse roof, breaking the blue tiles that had been installed."
According to the mayor, this "is bad news that goes against the interests of all La Nucía residents and the historical and cultural heritage of the town." In the same vein, Cano reminded that "from the Town Hall, we aim to recover and enhance the historical and cultural heritage of the municipality, in this case, with the restoration and recovery of the Font de la Favara washhouse by reconstructing the old roof, which, unfortunately, we have seen destroyed by a group of people."
In addition to stating that "we are already studying how to repair it as quickly as possible," Bernabé Cano also warned that "the Local Police are reviewing the entire camera system to identify those responsible for this damage."
The mayor also mentioned that "the general feeling among all La Nucía residents is one of indignation" and that, in his opinion, "we cannot allow the actions of a few individuals, whoever they may be, to damage and spoil the heritage of our town."
He emphasized that "the municipal heritage does not belong to the Town Hall; it belongs to each person living in La Nucía," and therefore "we ask for maximum public cooperation to gather as much information as possible to identify those responsible for this act of vandalism."
