'Valencians around the World' visits Lille, the French capital of Flanders

Valencians around the World travels this Wednesday, May 28, to the city of Lille, in northern France. From 10:45 PM, reporter Lluís Liñana will open the doors to the capital of French Flanders. Accompanied by Valencians residing there, we will discover the most emblematic spots.

Miriam Marmaneu, from Valencia, has been living in Lille for six years. Miriam will take us to visit the La Piscine museum, a former art deco bath complex from the 1930s, now transformed into a unique artistic space, housing an impressive collection of art and sculpture.

Enrique Quetglas, from Mislata, has also been residing in the French capital of Flanders for six years. With him, we will explore its gastronomy, such as the carbonade flamande, a beef stew cooked with beer, and mussels with fries. These are examples of a cuisine more Belgian than French, which will surprise our viewers.

Naiara Sánchez, from Elche, has only been in Lille for two months. With her, we will discover the city's Citadel Park, a true historical and natural gem. Its history begins in 1667 when King Louis XIV ordered the construction of a citadel to consolidate French control over the city, recently conquered from the Spanish.

Àlex Giner, from Gandia, has been living in Valenciennes for seven years. With him, we will visit the Lewarde Historical Mining Centre. The facilities cover eight hectares of land and 8,000 m² of industrial buildings, aiming to promote the mining culture of Calais.

Vicent Aguado, from Picassent, has been living in Valenciennes for six years. With him, we will visit the most important monument in his host city: the Basilica of Notre-Dame du Saint-Cordon. Built in neo-Gothic style between 1852 and 1864, it commemorates the legend of the Virgin Mary, who in 1008 saved the city from the plague by creating a protective cordon around it.
