Tourism will be the main focus at the start of 2025. The year kicks off with Spain's major event in this sector, Fitur, which will be held from January 22 to 26 at Madrid's Ifema fairgrounds. The Valencian Community will be present to showcase its 'Mediterranean Attitude' and highlight its offerings amidst a turbulent time following the floods that affected Valencia last October.
The Generalitat is aware of the event's magnitude and aims to make tourism the "driving force" at the start of the year. They have spared no effort for this Fitur, where several records are expected to be broken, with hopes of surpassing last year's visitor numbers.
To achieve this, they will feature a stand of 2,645 square metres, 595 m2 larger than last year's, integrating the seven tourist brands of the Community: Visit Benidorm, Visit Alicante, Visit Elche, Costa Blanca, Turismo de Castellón, Visit Valencia, and València Turisme. Many municipalities will also attend under the umbrella of the provincial councils and the Generalitat itself.
The Community will structure its space and offerings around a large plaza from which paths will lead to the main counters of the tourist brands and showcooking areas. A plaza crowned by a giant curved screen displaying images of Alicante and the rest of the Community, accompanied by orange trees emitting orange blossom fragrances to transport visitors to the Mediterranean.
"This central plaza will be the meeting point of Mediterranean life," explained the Minister of Tourism, Marián Cano, during the stand's presentation this Friday at the Alicante headquarters. Located in pavilion 7, "it will be a completely unified stand, distributed across two islands of different sizes and three annexed areas, two of which have two floors," indicated the area manager.
Cano highlighted that the plaza will be the nerve centre of the Generalitat's entire offering, where major exhibitions and "tastings of our gastronomy, providing an authentic sample of our offerings and land," will be housed. All accompanied by blue and white tones along with sand brown, to transport to Mediterranean shores.
The Generalitat's commitment aligns with the increased activity at Fitur. Cano assured that "there will be 317 companies, a record number and a 27% increase compared to the previous edition." The minister recalls that "we have never had so much business presence" and highlights that the territory's brand will also be present in Fitur's subsections such as sports, LGTB+, or cinema.
"We are going to work to offer a great image and we already have a wide agenda with operators," assured Marián Cano, who admits it is "daunting" just to see it. More than 250 meetings are expected during Fitur with tour operators, airlines, and industry companies.
Moreover, the department has "good prospects backed by increased activity" and the minister hopes to "exceed the number of visitors." From Wednesday to Friday, the space will be for businesses, while the weekend will be open to visitors.

In this regard, the president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, highlighted that "we need to seize all opportunities that arise and Fitur is the great tourism showcase where the Community can and should proudly display its potential."
Mazón, who was received at the headquarters amidst boos and chants from a small group of protesters, reaffirmed that "after the first time, one always returns to the Costa Blanca" and made it clear that "tourism is wealth, it helps us to assist the towns affected by the flood or to build hospitals, it will allow us to recover more quickly."
In this 45th edition of Fitur, more than 250,000 visitors are expected in total. The Generalitat has made a significant effort to expand its presence. Thus, the stand will focus on a Central Island and an annex that will group the main tourism brands. Here there will also be an area dedicated to showcookings and gastronomic experiences.
The second space will be an island for companies and associations, with 42 tables branded with the participants' logos and an exhibition area, as well as an exhibition hall with two floors and three presentation rooms for destinations and municipalities. The last area is a workspace with a business and innovation room and cloakroom and storage spaces.
