2024 has been the year of tourism for the Valencian Community and the province of Alicante. The region attended Fitur last January with a record-breaking label in a key sector for the economy, and it was this Monday, February 3rd, when the record was consolidated.

Thus, the Valencian Community has broken records for foreign visitors and foreign spending, also leading the growth of the first category throughout Spain, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) regarding Tourist Movements at the Border (Frontur) and the Tourist Spending Survey (Egatur).

In this way, almost 12 million international tourists arrived in the Valencian Community in 2024, 14% more than in 2023, spending a total of 15.177 billion euros, an increase in spending of 21.3%, with the British being the largest contributors, spending 3.357 billion euros, 23% more than the previous year.

Following is the French market, which left 2.403 billion euros, a 20% year-on-year increase, and the Nordic countries, which, with 1.6954 billion euros spent, increased their spending by 35.1% year-on-year. The Department of Tourism has highlighted these results as "the best in the historical series."

The head of the area, Marián Cano, emphasizes that "we have managed to close the year meeting the forecasts, both in arrivals and in revenue, despite the adversities." Cano expressed that these results strengthen the positioning of the Valencian Community and emphasizes that the "notable growth of tourist spending will continue to evolve favourably in 2025, a year in which a new record is expected."

She also wanted to highlight the Generalitat's commitment to "continue promoting the Valencian Community both in consolidated markets and in new emerging markets, such as the United States, China, and Japan."

Breakdown by markets and daily spending

Regarding the breakdown by markets, the United Kingdom remains the crown jewel, with more than 2.9 million Britons in 2024, an 11% increase that highlights the recovery of this key segment. It is followed by France with 2,259,403 tourists, 14.9% more than the previous year; the Nordic countries with 1,038,311 tourists, a 19.9% year-on-year increase, and the Netherlands, with the arrival of 906,776 visitors, representing a growth of 16.6%.

Additionally, the German market grew by 3% in 2024 with the arrival of 757,544 Germans, and tourists from Italy reached 589,268, 4.5% more than the previous year.
