Adolfo Utor, owner of Baleària, has secured his succession by appointing his son as director and vice president of the Dianense shipping company. The young man thus joins the board of directors after more than 13 years working in the company.

Utor presented this before the press conference of the shipping company's results, held in Dénia, where the new record turnover of this company was announced, reaching nearly 700 million euros and transporting 5.6 million passengers.

Utor introduced his son, Guillermo Utor, who has been working in the shipping company for 13 years and has gone «through all the departments of the company, from administration to fleet, including the operational part.» The young man also spent a year in the United States, in charge of the company's lines in the Bahamas.

Utor's son studied Business Administration at the Madrid university of Cunef and subsequently completed an MBA at the Institute of Business. Following this, the owner of Baleària explains that «he fully joined the financial department, engaging in multiple activities in the control area, participating in various processes such as shareholder concentration or company restructuring.»

Afterwards, Utor believes it is time for his son «to take on new responsibilities, and we understand from the board of directors that this is the case, so he will take on these new roles.» Utor emphasized that it was «a decision of the Board of Directors, not mine, and I believe he is there because they wanted him, and I hope he fits in,» assuring that «with this, we will have 50 or 60 years ahead to continue a business model in a country where maritime connections have a strategic character.»

I have two sons, the eldest has his own life, but Guillermo has worked in the company since he was young, he is the only one, and all the responsibility falls on him. I hope he will accompany us because I want to continue, not as long as Elizabeth of England, because I still have a lot of energy left.

For the owner of Baleària, his son's incorporation is crucial, as it represents «the continuity of the company,» and he is confident that Guillermo «will take on these responsibilities with his capabilities and energy, ensuring the continuity of Baleària.» However, Utor made it clear that «I still have a lot of energy left.»

Staff and Employment

In addition to the results, the shipping company has highlighted its workforce numbers, reaching 2,600 employees in peak season, with an annual average of 2,200, representing a 10% growth. Utor emphasized job stability, as 96% of them are permanent, as well as the diversity of the workforce, with 60 different nationalities.

«The number of leadership positions held by women has increased by 4%, and we have launched a plan to promote female talent in the Fleet, especially in Bridge and Machinery, a sector with a shortage of professionals.» The president of the shipping company also highlighted the achievement of the Top Employer seal, which distinguishes Baleària as a leading employer brand in Spain for initiatives related to talent management.
