Young people in Alicante will be able to travel for free on public transport throughout the Comunitat. The current card, which allows those under 31 to travel at no cost on the Tram, is being renewed and unified with the Valencia metro and Castellón tram.
The Minister for Environment, Infrastructure and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus, has introduced this new personalised transport card, Móbilis30, which updates the current youth pass.
"It is a pioneering proposal to access metropolitan transport across the entire Comunitat for free," meaning young people from Alicante attending the Fallas next March can use their new Tram card to travel on the Valencia metro.
According to the regional leader, "this is the first card that unifies access to all regional public transport on a single platform." These cards will be made of plastic and personalised with the holder's photo and details.
As a result, the current cardboard cards allowing young people in Alicante to travel for free on the Tram will become obsolete. To ease the transition to the plastic format, the Conselleria has enabled an online procedure on the Generalitat's website to apply for the card, which will be sent directly to the applicant's home.
Regarding this new title, Martínez Mus explained that it aims to ensure "a stable framework for youth discounts, so the new cards will have a more robust and advanced support."
The Móbilis30 card will be valid for use on the TRAM systems of Castelló, the Metropolitan Transport System of València, and the TRAM of Alacant. This will allow users to access public transport not only in Alicante but also in Valencia and Castellón, "thus reaffirming the Consell's commitment to territorial cohesion," stated the minister.
The minister explained that the transition from cardboard to plastic support will take place until May 1, when the current cards will no longer be accepted. From then on, free public transport for those under 31 will only be available with this card.
To receive the new card, intended for those under 31 residing in Spain, it is necessary to provide the valid Jove card from the Valencian Youth Institute in the online procedure, along with a photo and a copy of the ID. Those under 14 can apply by presenting the family book instead of the Jove card, along with the guardian's ID.
Once the documentation is reviewed, the card will be issued and sent by regular mail to the address indicated in the application. It is important to note that cards will only be issued through this procedure, with no option for in-person collection. The cost of the card will be as per the current rates, which is currently 4 euros, and home delivery will be temporarily free.
Before use, users must load the free title at the vending machines located in Metrovalencia stations. Additionally, the Móbilis30 card will serve as the basis for future discounts to be applied from June 30.
