Updates on Alicante's Special Bonfires: Florida-La Viña Returns to Its Iconic Square

Florida-Plaza de la Viña will be set alight in just under a week at its most iconic location: the corner of the square that once - between 1919 and 1974 - hosted one of the corners of the field where Hércules CF played.

The dimensions of the 'Mutació' bonfire, which Juan Carlos Moles, through the Ilusión Artística SL workshop, will erect in the district, have led the committee to return to its iconic location to accommodate all the ninots.

Florida-Plaza de la Viña is gearing up to soar high, with a bonfire that will measure nearly 17 metres in height and 20 in diameter. Thus, they claim that the Orión Street crossing has become too small, opting to return to the square.

Moreover, the return to Plaza de la Viña also brings with it the identity of this bonfire, which is now over 35 years old. This return will allow the committee to reclaim part of its identity by remaining in its iconic planting corner at the square.

This marks the end of two consecutive years of planting at the Orión Street crossing, which they moved to after the 2022 Bonfires. Lorenzo Santana was the last artist to raise his bonfire in the square, doing so with 'The Land of Two Hearts' after the pandemic.

It was the following year, on the 35th anniversary of the committee, when the location and artists debuted. Salva Banyuls and Néstor Ruiz entered the Special Category of the Alicante Bonfires with Florida-Plaza de la Viña and their bonfire 'The Elements and Energy'.

Thus, in 2024, Luis Espinosa also debuted in the top category of the Alicante Bonfires with 'Konéctika', repeating the location at the Orión Street crossing, just a few metres away from the original site.

In the 2025 Bonfires, Florida-Plaza de la Viña will reclaim its iconic space on the square alongside Juan Carlos Moles, who also returns to the Special Category after debuting just over a decade ago at Parque-Plaza de Galicia.
