The University of Alicante is among the world's best in six fields of knowledge. This is confirmed by the 2025 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, published this Wednesday by the global higher education analyst Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
The Alicante institution is ranked among the top universities worldwide for studying subjects related to Tourism (ranked between 101 and 150), Economics and Econometrics, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Sciences (between 410 and 450), Chemistry (between 501 and 550), and Medicine (between 701 and 850).
With these results, the UA "maintains its status as a reference university in the major global rankings," highlighted the Vice-Rector for Studies and Quality, Francisco José Torres, who celebrates that the discipline of Tourism is "the best positioned."
At the same time, the academic noted that the other five disciplines highlighted in the ranking maintain UA as "a reference university" in these areas.
Vice-Rector Francisco José Torres emphasized the appearance of Medicine in this ranking, which places the UA among the world's best. Its presence is "especially striking," as the degree has not been fully implemented "since it has only been operational for a year and a half."
"This reaffirms the belief that the UA has the resources and research talent necessary to offer a degree in Medicine of great strength, which is destined to become a national benchmark in the coming years."
Regarding other selected disciplines, such as Chemical Engineering, Economics, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences, Torres commented that "these are already common subjects in these rankings given the enormous strength they have in our university, as is the case with Tourism, where the University of Alicante stands out brilliantly."
Finally, the Vice-Rector stated that "from the University of Alicante we want to congratulate all the faculty and technical, management, administration, and service staff linked to the studies of these fields of knowledge for the success achieved, which once again places our university among the world's best."
The QS World University ranking provides an independent comparative analysis of the performance of over 18,300 university programs, conducted by students from more than 1,700 universities in 100 locations worldwide and for 55 academic disciplines.
These disciplines are also evaluated for five broader areas of knowledge such as Arts and Humanities, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences, and finally, Management.
