The University of Alicante has inaugurated this week the first edition of its new Master's in Prevention of Gender Violence and Intervention from an Interdisciplinary Approach. With these studies, the institution aims to impart knowledge and skills to contribute to the research of this social scourge from a multidisciplinary perspective, among other objectives.

The Official State Gazette published on September 5th the resolution of the Council of Ministers, at the proposal of Minister Diana Morant -responsible for Science, Innovation, and Universities-, to declare and establish the official status of these new studies at UA. Additionally, the official journal outlined its curriculum this Thursday.

This master's degree, integrated into the Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences at UA, has a total of 25 places, which have been filled by graduates from the branches of Social and Legal Sciences, Health Sciences, Education, and Humanities; main fields also of its faculty, including notable figures such as Professor Marta Martín, former Congress deputy; Professor Irene García Bajo, former councilor of Benidorm; and María José Rodríguez Jaume, Vice-Rector for Social Responsibility, Inclusion, and Equality during Manuel Palomar's second term.

Nearly ten subjects are taught during this master's program, distributed across both semesters. These will focus on the foundations and policies of gender violence, through concepts, theoretical frameworks, and historical roots; as well as on its national and international regulatory framework and research methodologies.

Additionally, the master's program includes content on identification, prevention, and intervention of gender violence from different fields: language and communication, education, social services, psychosocial, legal, and health. The curriculum is completed with external internships and a final master's thesis.

All this will enable the teaching and research staff of these studies to promote students' ability to reflect and generate knowledge about the causes of this social scourge, as well as to create strategies for its prevention from different levels and sectors of professional action.

It also aims to facilitate the exchange of experiences in intervention in gender violence from different sectors, as well as provide knowledge and skills that contribute to research and professional practice in this field from a gender perspective.

The University of Alicante details that this specific training offers opportunities in various fields such as social services, healthcare, education, legal advice and assistance, media communication, development of plans, programs, intervention projects and initial training oriented towards research in this area.
