Unions have once again called for progress in the Professional Career Path for Alicante City Council staff. Comisiones Obreras and SEP have shared an internal statement expressing their conclusions from the Technical Coordination and Development Committee of the Professional Career Path, voicing their dissatisfaction that this body "has not met even once in the past year, despite our repeated requests."
Since the unions insist that this one-year delay affects the implementation of the Career Path in the Alicante council, they have expressed their discontent over decisions such as hiring an external company to carry it out. "We have repeatedly requested the convening of this Committee to advance these tasks; however, after a year of waiting, various issues affecting colleagues remain unresolved. When we expected this meeting to clarify and advance pending matters from over a year ago, we were informed that these issues cannot be resolved due to a lack of resources, attributed to restrictions imposed by the auditor, leading to the decision to resort to an external alternative," they stated in their text.

Among the proposals that both SEP and CCOO believe should have been advanced this year is the creation of a new framework for municipal employees who had not reached the required seniority by 31 December 2023. "This request remains unfulfilled. As a result, many colleagues are receiving less than they are entitled to or, in some cases, have received no compensation at all. This unjustifiable delay is causing an intolerable economic disadvantage," the statement explains.
Their requests also include signing reciprocity agreements with other administrations in the Valencian Community to recognise the Professional Career Path of those coming from other institutions. "This measure, requested a year ago, has also not been implemented. The excuses presented by the administration are baseless and unjustified, and municipal employees continue to be the main victims," they assert.
Unions have also criticised the Municipal Intervention's refusal to expand the Human Resources department to ensure efficient management. "It is incomprehensible how the City Council has found no technical or financial obstacles in creating and filling managerial positions, while the needs of the municipal workforce are relegated to oblivion. This discrimination against municipal employees is unacceptable," they stated in their communiqué.
