On Tuesday, June 10, UNED Dénia will hold a Conference on Mediation, where renowned legal experts will examine the role of Alternative Dispute Resolution Methods (ADR) in the reform of the Spanish judicial system.
The event, starting at 5:00 PM, will feature participation from professors, lawyers, judges, and prosecutors, who will address the challenges and progress in implementing mediation as a peaceful tool for dispute resolution.
The session will begin with an institutional presentation by Raquel Martí Signes, Director of UNED Dénia, and María Esther Souto Galván, Professor of Law and Vice Dean of Research at UNED. This will be followed by several presentations:
5:20 PM: "ADR in the Reform of the Spanish Justice System: A Necessary Approach to Peaceful Conflict Resolution," by María Esther Souto Galván.
6:00 PM: "Collaborative Law as a Complementary Tool to ADR," presented by lawyer Lorena Romans Cabrera.
6:40 PM: "The Judiciary and ADR: Adaptation and New Challenges," by Judge José Antonio López Soto.
7:20 PM: "The Public Prosecutor's Office and ADR: Its Role in Mediation," with prosecutor María Sendra Domenech.
The event will conclude with a debate panel at 8:00 PM, moderated by Antonio Estarca Catalá, a tutor at UNED, where the obstacles to the effective implementation of ADR in Spain will be discussed.
According to the organisers, this conference aims to foster debate on mediation as an effective alternative to traditional judicial proceedings, highlighting its importance in the context of modernising the legal system. Attendance is open to students, legal professionals, and anyone interested in restorative justice.
