The Competition Committee of the Spanish Football Federation (FEF) sanctioned Atlético de Madrid on Wednesday with the closure of the south end stand of the Metropolitano, which is occupied by the Frente ultras, for three matches, and with a fine of 45,000 euros, for violent incidents, classified as "very serious", during the derby held last Sunday. The FEF's first court of justice took into account the referee's report of the match, which had to be suspended for 17 minutes due to the throwing of objects at Thibaut Courtois, including three lighters and a water bottle, although many more were thrown at the Real Madrid goalkeeper.

Competition has also analyzed the complaint filed by LaLiga, as well as the report submitted by Real Madrid against Atlético, and the allegations presented by Atlético, to impose on the red-and-white club an expected punishment and, in principle, proportional to the incidents. "The facts have been duly proven, without any controversy from the host club." "Even if they were small objects, there is no doubt that they are capable of causing some type of injury considering the distance from which some objects were thrown, potentially hitting the head or face of the opposing team's goalkeeper," acknowledges the Competition Committee, which regretted "the terrible image that these types of incidents generate."

"Although it is the action of a very unrepresentative part of the club's fans, Atlético de Madrid did not take sufficient measures to prevent such serious incidents in both their large-scale action and their result or, at least, the measures taken were not adequate for a match of special rivalry in a top-level professional competition such as the First Division of one of the most important leagues in the world," stressed in its resolution the federative court. Competition has rejected Atlético's allegations, which requested a sanction for Courtois.
