The High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) has upheld the sentence of 35 years in prison plus 10 years of supervised release for Brian Raimundo Céspedes for the rape of a 16-year-old girl in an industrial area of Igualada on November 1, 2021.

With this ruling, the high court confirms the sentence of the Barcelona Court, which last year imposed on this Colombian man. The TSJC has now dismissed the appeal filed by the defence and rejects the application of mitigating factors for alcohol consumption or mental disorder.

The rape occurred on Halloween night 2021, during the early hours of October 31 to November 1, and the magistrates of the Barcelona Court described the acts as "torture". According to the account of events, the attack lasted 20 minutes during which the accused left the young woman in "an agonising state with little chance of survival".

Thus, the magistrates sentenced Brian Raimundo to a penalty of 20 years less one day in prison for attempted murder, with the aggravating factor of gender discrimination, and another 15 years for sexual assault "with the introduction of bodily members or objects", as well as the payment of compensation amounting to 332,727.65 euros. Now, the TSJC confirms this sentence.
