Too many things on his mind on one of the most important days of his life with his return to the White House. Naturally, this can cause some confusion for the most powerful man in the world. This seems to have happened to the President of the United States, Donald Trump, when he mistakenly identified Spain as a member of the BRICS - a multilateral organisation that brings together various emerging economies and has established itself as an alternative international space to the G7 - and promised to impose a one hundred percent tariff on the group.

In the Oval Office, when asked about the contribution of less than 5% from several NATO countries to the Atlantic Alliance, including Spain, he asserted that Spain is part of the BRICS. "I think Spain is well below. And yet, they are part of the BRICS. (...) And if the BRICS want to do that, that's fine, but we are going to impose at least a one hundred percent tariff on the business they do," he declared.

The BRICS acronym comes from its founding countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, although it currently consists of eleven full members, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Iran, and Indonesia. It also has several partner countries.
