"Plenamar" is a documentary about the last hermit residing on an isolated islet, cut off from the world when the tide rises. This is the synopsis of the latest production by the Institut Valencià de Cultura arriving in Alicante this weekend.
The work by Begoña Teña will have a triple showing at the Teatre Arniches in Alicante, with performances this Friday and Saturday at 8:30 PM and Sunday at 6 PM. The session on May 24 will be accessible for people with sensory disabilities.
This special performance will feature a magnetic loop, adapted subtitling system, and individual audio description with amplified sound through headphones. Devices do not require reservation and can be collected directly in the theatre lobby.
Additionally, the IVC continues to promote mediation actions with audiences, and "Plenamar" serves as the starting point for various groups who have worked in the weeks leading up to the performance.
Decentralised Culture
With a Castellón seal, "Plenamar" is written by Begoña Tena and directed by Laia Porcar and Nuria Vizcarro. With this in-house production, developed in the capital of La Plana, the IVC achieves its goal of decentralising both cultural offerings and work processes and teams.
"Plenamar" explores themes of isolation and communication breakdown, the threatening nature, and humanity's inability to control it. The story is set on an archipelago connected to the mainland by a road passable only at low tide. The inhabitants face a dilemma over the construction of a bridge that would permanently connect them to the continent.
Carme Juan, Laura Useleti, Merce Tienda, Pau Gregori, Silvia Valero, and Talia Bobany make up the cast of the play, which features live music created and performed by Versonautas.
