The first day of the bus transport strike has resulted in scenes of long queues at bus stops in the city of Alicante. There, dozens of people gather early this Monday, frustrated by the long waits to catch public transport.
Some residents of the Carolinas neighborhood even complain that they have been waiting for almost three-quarters of an hour to board the bus line. "I have an exam at 9, but I won't make it in time," laments a young man waiting at the Pio XII square stop who needs to take the bus to get to school.
"We have been waiting for the bus since 8:15 am," expresses another resident, who complains about the low frequencies. Many of the people waiting at the stop argue that they were unaware of the situation this Monday, and many choose to walk to their destination or change lines.
This Monday will be the first of the transport strike days, which will extend to November 11, 28, and 29 if no agreement is reached, and to December 5 and 6, becoming indefinite from the 23rd, on the eve of Christmas, if negotiations do not succeed.
Regarding Alicante buses, the labor authority has set minimum services equivalent to 55% of the usual service between 6 and 9 am and between 5 and 7 pm, with 40% of the usual services provided for the rest of the time slots.
