Sunday will be challenging for traffic in Alicante, as three sporting events will necessitate the closure of streets and avenues leading in and out of the city. In response, the Alicante City Council has devised a special mobility plan. Over 300 officers from the Local Police and the Civil Guard will ensure safety and manage traffic flow.
The overlap of the International Half Marathon and the final stage of the Women's Tour of the Valencian Community will require road closures for vehicles, generally along Denia Avenue, the coastal front, and the city centre from 7 AM to 6 PM. Specifically, during this time, Gómiz and Juan Bautista Lafora promenades will be closed for the cycling race. Additionally, there will be a temporary closure of Denia Avenue from the Santa Faz roundabout (Gibeller) occupying the underpasses to Plaza del Mar before the arrival of the cycling caravan around 2:30 PM.
Also, from 10 AM to 4 PM, access through the Town Hall Square will be closed due to the celebration of the Children's Cancer Solidarity Day.
Regarding the Half Marathon and 10K races, closures will occur from 9:30 AM until the event concludes around 1 PM, affecting the runners' route through the following itinerary: Gravina Street, Paseíto Ramiro, Jorge Juan Street, Rafael Altamira, Rambla, Gerona, Federico Soto Avenue, Teatro, Constitución, Médico Pascual Pérez, Federico Soto, Luceros, Alfonso el Sabio, San Vicente, Plaza de España, Calderón de la Barca, Alfonso el Sabio, Luceros, Estación Avenue, Luceros, Federico Soto, Maisonnave, and Plaza de la Estrella, Aguilra Avenue, Periodista Rafael González Aguilar Street, Pianista Gonzalo Soriano Street in Gran Vía using a lane towards Puente Rojo to Lorenzo Carbonell Avenue, Catedrático Soler, Eusebio Sempere, Ramón y Cajal, Loring, and Plaza Puerta del Mar to Pier 12 on the Port Promenade.
Additionally, bus lines 21 and C6 will be affected between 2 PM and 3 PM due to the cycling race, and lines 21, 23, and 24 by the half marathon from the start of service until approximately 12:30 PM. Changes in routes and stops can be checked at https://alicante.vectalia.es/alertas/
The event organisers, in collaboration with the Local Police, have been placing signs since Wednesday indicating the race route through streets where driveways may be affected during the race hours.
The Mobility Councillor, Carlos de Juan, has "strongly" advised private vehicle users to travel via the perimeter belts of Gran Vía and Vía Parque and to "avoid at all costs" passing through the city centre and the coastal front. De Juan, in statements distributed to the media, has appealed for the cooperation of the entire population to ensure the smooth running of the various events.
