Cooking with Pablo, the influencer, has returned to Alicante to try some of its restaurants he hasn't visited yet. Previously, Pablo Cabezali had travelled to the city to try the restaurantfavoured by Alberto Chicote, which is none other than Piripi, part of the same group as Nou Manolín.

On this trip to the region, Cabezali visited the vicinity of the Alicante Town Hall, to a "traditional" city restaurant, founded in 1954, according to the influencer. However, it wasn't exactly as stated, as Cooking with Pablo went to the new bar 'Las Chapas', part of the Grupo PIS PAS.

'Las Chapas' retains the name, spirit, and some of the dishes from the iconic bar in Raval Roig, but it is a new restaurant that opened a few months ago on Altamira Street, between the Town Hall Square and Rambla de Méndez Núñez.

In this new phase, 'Las Chapas' maintains the traditional bar spirit, with top-quality products that have delighted the influencer, such as seafood from the markets of Alicante and Santa Pola, "better the grilled prawn," he recommends, and also its most emblematic creations, like the 'picha' alicantina: a tomato toast with a salted fish mince.

The influencer was also impressed by the seafood empanada, which was off the menu; the octopus salad or the marinera, with a rich anchovy. For main courses, a kingfish with vegetables and the sirloin baguette. For desserts, the cheesecake and nougat flan.

In 1954, Antonio Martínez opened 'Bar Antonio' in the fishing district of Alicante, Raval Roig. As expected, the establishment was dedicated to seafood and marine products that the locals of Raval fished daily. Years later, it was renamed 'Las Chapas'.

A generation passed until 1991, when another native of Raval Roig, Ramoncín, opened the second phase of 'Las Chapas', this time in the popular Carolinas neighbourhood. Thirty years behind the bar until Ramoncín retired in 2021, and now, three years later, he has left his legacy for Grupo Pis Pas to carry forward the new life of such a renowned bar. With the previous ownership, they have agreed to maintain the same spirit and some of its traditional recipes so that 'Las Chapas' remains what it has always been in Alicante. See you in the bars in December.
