The toxicology test conducted on Paloma Lago following the alleged sexual assault by the former Xunta de Galicia councillor, Alfonso Villares, found no trace of substances that would suggest she was a victim of chemical submission. The results were also negative for alcohol. However, this could be attributed to the fact that the test was not carried out on the same day as the alleged sexual assault nor within the crucial 48-hour window for detecting chemical submission.

The test results, released this Wednesday, June 10, as reported by ABC, were conducted on December 27, the same day Lago awoke feeling dazed and dizzy at her home in Covas (Ferrol). On that day, the journalist and the former councillor were together, first at a restaurant and later, as Pilar Vidal reported last week, ended up at Lago's residence.

It was her nephew, who lives next door, who found her "disoriented and unconscious," according to the police report, and called the emergency services at 112. Subsequently, a patrol arrived to file the corresponding report, which until now was the only official document of the case.

The formal complaint by Paloma Lago was filed on January 2, days after the alleged incident. Last Tuesday, Villares, during a press conference without questions, announced that he had received notification from the Superior Court of Justice of Galicia informing him of his status as a suspect in a judicial process based on what he described as "a situation occurring in my strictly personal sphere."

After learning of the high court's decision, the councillor decided to step down from his position to "avoid harming the Galician Government or the regional institutions," and communicated this to the President of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda. He stated that his resignation was aimed at relinquishing his status as a parliamentary privilege holder.
