The high cost of housing in the province of Alicante, among other issues, is one of the main concerns for the local population. Some municipalities are proposing measures to ease the real estate tension. An example is the Town Hall of Rojales, which has offered 2,700 square meters, distributed across three municipally-owned plots, to the Generalitat for the construction of public housing under the Plan Vive. This will allow the technicians of the Valencian Housing and Land Entity (EVha) to analyze the characteristics of these lands and assess their viability for the promotion of such properties.
The municipal corporation's plenary session approved last September to join the framework collaboration agreement between the Consell and the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FVMP) to "boost" public protection housing on local administration land through public-private collaboration, according to the council.
The Urban Planning Councillor, Antonio López, believes that developing these projects "is the way to meet the needs of residents who have seen property prices become unaffordable for most of the local population in recent years."
"The growth of the second home and single-family home with pool prototype is what has driven this increase in sale value, along with the great interest from foreign citizens," he added. In light of this situation, the councillor emphasized that "moving" the public housing stock in Rojales is a "priority need" for the municipal government team.
"From this Department, we will do everything in our power to ensure that, after a long time, we can build public housing in our area, as it is of vital importance for the future of our town to offer accessible housing to our young people," he concluded.
