The tourism sector relies on Hogueras to kickstart the summer with 'high occupancy' in the province

With Hogueras in full swing, the tourism sector in the province and the Comunitat has placed its hopes on the major festivities of the city of Alicante, which already have hotels at 90% occupancy, with peaks nearing full capacity over the weekend.
It is expected that Hogueras will serve as a boost to close a June of high occupancy, according to the hotel association, Hosbec. The sector indicates that the second half of the month will continue the growth trend on the Costa Blanca "thanks to the celebrations of San Juan and Hogueras, which drive last-minute bookings."
Hosbec points out that there are already peaks of 95% over the weekend, while the average for the main days of the festivities is around 90%, partly thanks to the loyalty of domestic customers and a "steady trickle" of European tourists.
The hotel association indicates that the entire Comunitat "meets expectations at the official start of summer with a hotel sector maintaining very high levels of activity across all its destinations." After a first half of June with figures surpassing those of 2024 in many destinations in the province, the second half is expected to close in the same manner, mainly driven by Hogueras.
The Costa Blanca started June reaching an average of 80.8% occupancy, driven by international tourists and the "loyalty" of domestic travellers, who lead with 44.7% of stays. The United Kingdom remains the main source, with 17.4%, followed by Belgium (5.3%), the Netherlands (4.5%), and Ireland (4.1%). There are also modest growths from Germany, Norway, and the USA, consolidating the diversification of European and long-haul sources.
Looking ahead to the second half of June, confirmed bookings are already at 81.4% on the Costa Blanca, above 2024 and pending last-minute bookings due to Hogueras, which will further boost the figures. The numbers in southern Alicante are lower, currently standing at 68.5%.
Benidorm Data
Benidorm continues to be the economic powerhouse of the Comunitat, closing the first half of June with nearly 90% occupancy and expecting to exceed 88.4% in the second half. Hosbec indicates that these figures will grow "with last-minute bookings driven by the arrival of summer and the celebration of San Juan, which will attract mainly domestic visitors eager to kick off the high season."
The British market remains the city's main driver, accounting for 49% of stays, four points more than in 2024, consolidating its position as the international pillar of the destination. Although domestic tourism slightly decreases in weight to 32.7%, it remains the second major support, especially on weekends. Portugal (3.4%), Ireland (3.5%), Belgium (2.6%), and the Netherlands (2.4%) complete the international profile, all with increases or stability compared to last year.
