Torrevieja's Minister of Environment, Infrastructure, and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus, has highlighted the success of the public-private collaboration model involving the Generalitat, the Torrevieja City Council, and the concessionaire, which has enabled an investment of 100 million euros in the Port of Torrevieja.
The Infrastructure Minister made these remarks on Saturday during his visit to Torrevieja, where he inspected the ongoing works at the port alongside Torrevieja's Mayor, Eduardo Dolón, and the Director General of Coasts, Ports, and Airports, Marc García Manzana. Martínez Mus stated that this project "marks a significant milestone by integrating the port with the city, transforming the port area into a leisure and enjoyment space for residents and visitors, following a Generalitat strategy already being implemented in other municipalities such as Benicarló or Burriana."
The Minister also referred to the opening of the new port parking facility, which can accommodate 656 vehicles, including spaces for electric vehicles and those with reduced mobility. This initiative aims to "alleviate the parking problem at the port, especially with the arrival of Easter and the Paschal season, when a significant increase in tourists is expected in the area."
This parking facility, he explained, "is the first phase of an ambitious project that will revitalize Torrevieja's waterfront, creating an attractive urban provision and new commercial and leisure options." Completion is expected by the summer of 2025.
Furthermore, Martínez Mus emphasized the commitment of the Generalitat and the Torrevieja City Council "to improving infrastructure and creating quality public spaces that drive Torrevieja's economic and social development," highlighting "the efforts made by the City Council to integrate the port with the city through significant investments."
In this regard, he also highlighted some municipal projects, such as the urbanization of Paseo Libertad and its surroundings, which is being coordinated with the Generalitat. This includes the redevelopment of the urban front adjacent to the port and the creation of an elevated walkway providing direct access from the promenade on the Levante breakwater to the future leisure center.
2025 Budget
Martínez Mus emphasized the Generalitat's commitment to Vega Baja, which "becomes one of the major priorities in infrastructure, with an investment of 8.5 million euros planned in the 2025 budget of the Conselleria." This investment will primarily focus on roadworks and water infrastructure, with projects commencing this fiscal year and expected to exceed 13 million euros over the coming years.
