Torrevieja has brought the best of the Mediterranean city to the International Tourism Fair in Madrid (Fitur) this Wednesday. With the launch of the 'Torrevieja is Alive' campaign, Mayor Eduardo Dolón, alongside Tourism Councillor Rosario Martínez, has commenced the promotion of their municipality.

This town in the Vega Baja region took centre stage at the Central Plaza of the Valencian Community stand, unveiling this promotion designed to offer an invitation to experience the true essence of the Mediterranean city. Present at the event were the President of the Valencian Community, Carlos Mazón; the Tourism Councillor, Marian Cano; the President of the Provincial Council of Alicante, Toni Pérez; as well as the President of the Hotel and Tourism Business Association of the Valencian Community (HOSBEC), Fede Fuster, various mayors from neighbouring municipalities, and designer Eduardo Navarrete.

The campaign aims to encourage tourists to fully discover Torrevieja, "living it, feeling it in every corner, from the unique landscape of its salt lagoons and the serenity of its beaches, to the warmth of its people and its vibrant cultural richness." The city is presented as a destination where tradition intertwines with modernity, offering a unique experience that transcends the purely touristic, connecting visitors with its identity, history, and incomparable lifestyle.

According to the Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, "'Torrevieja is Alive' is not just a slogan, it's a sentiment we share with all those who visit us and, ultimately, decide to stay. The city offers everyone facilities and infrastructure that allow them to live and enjoy it to the fullest. The spot seeks to convey this essence as a vibrant tourist destination and exciting at any time of the year. The philosophy behind this campaign places residents and tourists at the heart of the city, emphasizing that each person is fundamental to the wealth and vitality of the municipality."

El paseo del Mar is projected as the new tourist postcard

The Paseo del Mar, the new leisure area at the port of Torrevieja, is scheduled to open in June 2025, transforming the maritime façade of the salt city and is set to become the new tourist image of the city, the most important project currently underway in the city with a public and private investment of over 100 million euros, with contributions from the Generalitat and the City Council.

It will become "the new tourist image" of the fifth city in the Valencian Community in population and the first in residential tourism, with 60,000 housing units. The mayor has emphasized this potential that Torrevieja has to attract new residents, both European and from the rest of Spain, largely thanks to the varied cultural and leisure offer that exists.

Eduardo Dolón has cited the 100,000 visitors recorded in the last year at the natural park of Las Salinas and the potential for attracting sporting events with the Sports City, which covers an area of over 300,000 square meters and last year hosted 199 events. This sports venue has led to around 18,000 overnight stays by visitors and revenues estimated at around 8.5 million euros.

A comprehensive offer "impossible to summarise"

The mayor has stated that the complete offer of the locality is "impossible to summarise" in a single presentation but has highlighted the three ports with three marinas and their mooring points, or that 53% of Torrevieja's land is protected natural park. He has taken this opportunity to announce that the town hall intends to further "enhance" the natural resources of the municipality through the promotion of the "idyllic images" of its privileged environment and experiences such as "Torrevieja tastes like salt."

The carnivals, the International Habaneras and Polyphony Contest, the 'Torrevieja Weekend' event, and the rest of the varied cultural offer, as well as the possibilities of children's tourism, where Torrevieja is a leader, are other attractions of the city at one of the most important fairs on the international tourism calendar.

Torrevieja, "where you want to return"

The President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, has highlighted Torrevieja as the best example of a destination where the visitor who arrives for the first time "wants to return a second time and may end up settling down."

Referring to Torrevieja's strength in residential tourism, Mazón has stated that in this city "you live like nowhere else" on the Mediterranean coast because it has become a "mature, serious tourist destination that does not improvise and knows how it wants to grow and attract" visitors.

"Torrevieja knows the importance of carnival, sailing, commerce and plays in the big leagues, in the most challenging ones," continued the president, who highlighted that it has "the largest maritime sports centre in the Mediterranean" and also the largest cultural venue, Las Eras de la Sal. Similarly, Carlos Mazón has valued the certificate it holds in family tourism, which makes the city "a tourist engine of the Valencian Community and Spain."

In his turn, the President of the Provincial Council and the Provincial Tourism Board, Toni Pérez, has described the town of Torrevieja as "one of the great tourist strengths of the Costa Blanca" and has emphasized that there "the resident is the object of action" with work "very well done" where few other destinations compete with such quality. The natural component of the environment, "with that sea, the salt flats, the sky and the emotions," are other elements highlighted by Pérez.
