The Town Hall of Torrevieja has introduced the new School Patrol of the Local Police, a service commencing this Monday, 8th September, coinciding with the start of the school year. The unit, comprising two patrols with specific training as 'tutor agents', aims to enhance the protection of minors and collaboration with educational centres.
The School Patrol will focus on preventing truancy, early detection of bullying, youth violence, or addictions, and supporting families in vulnerable situations. In addition to monitoring the accesses and surroundings of schools and institutes, patrols will be conducted in areas frequented by minors to ensure students remain in classrooms during school hours.
Inspector Tomás Quesada will lead this unit, which will work in coordination with school management teams, Social Services, Health, the UPCCA, and the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office. Their duties also include talks and workshops on preventing youth violence, responsible use of social networks, and cyberbullying.
The Councillor for Education, Ricardo Recuero, emphasised that this is "a significant qualitative step in child care", while the Councillor for Security, Federico Alarcón, highlighted that this project "strengthens the close presence of the Local Police in the educational field, building trust among minors, families, and centres".
Additionally, Torrevieja stands as a regional benchmark in combating school dropout, with a rate below 3% among nearly 15,000 enrolled students, compared to the national 13%, municipal sources highlight. With this new School Patrol, "Torrevieja reaffirms its commitment to education, childhood, and safety, establishing itself as a leading municipality at the regional level in prevention, protection, and support of minors".
