Hércules coach, Rubén Torrecilla, stated this Friday that he will do "everything possible" to ensure that winger Javi Moreno remains with the Alicante club for many years. The Almerian midfielder, who has scored five goals and provided seven assists this season, joined the club in the winter transfer window of the previous season and has since become a key player for the Alicante team.
The coach confirmed that the Hércules club has already begun negotiations to extend his contract, as reported by this newspaper, and emphasized that negotiations for the continuity of goalkeeper Carlos Abad are also advanced.
"For me, they are fundamental players for the structure of Hércules and for continued growth. They would have no problem playing in a higher category," said the coach, who noted that for him Javi Moreno is a player of "higher category". "It is important to secure him as soon as possible because for me maintaining the core and not changing players so much is the most important thing. I hope it gets finalized," he added.
Torrecilla boasted about the increase in market value of several team players, such as Javi Moreno, Nico Espinosa, Roger Colomina, or Samu Vázquez, who have found in Hércules the opportunity to boost their careers.
On another note, the blue-and-white coach stated that Hércules is facing a "great opportunity" to fully enter the fight for promotion and "aim for everything" if they manage to win this Sunday against Mérida, a direct rival. The Extremadura team marks the boundary of the promotion zone and has a five-point advantage over Hércules, although the coach did not want to speak of a definitive match.
"Everything is very even and there are direct confrontations. We have to think about winning and then we'll see the next one," said the coach, who admitted that playing five of the last seven competition matches at the Rico Pérez is an incentive for Hércules.
"The home advantage has been very beneficial since I arrived. Playing at home is a plus and we will try to get as many points as possible," commented the coach from Cáceres, who avoided making calculations and focused solely on beating Mérida.
The coach from Cáceres urged Hércules fans to attend the stadium and give the team that extra boost, despite the festive Palm Sunday. "People stop me on the street and are excited," said Torrecilla, who added that at this stage of the championship "only winning matters, it doesn't matter if you play better or worse."
Torrecilla confirmed Roger Colomina's starting position for the match and expressed hope to have goalkeeper Carlos Abad and Alejandro Sotillos, who have been absent in recent games due to physical problems.
