Toddler Drowns in a Swimming Pool in Seville

A 21-month-old girl has tragically died in the Sevillian town of Guillena after falling into the family home's swimming pool. The incident occurred in a matter of seconds on Friday afternoon.

The child, who would have turned two on September 3rd, was immediately taken to a health centre equipped with two emergency teams. Despite over an hour of resuscitation efforts by medical staff, they were unfortunately unsuccessful.

The girl's body is currently at the Forensic Anatomical Institute awaiting an autopsy, as reported by Canal Sur and confirmed by the mayor, Lorenzo Guillena, to Europa Press. The mayor, who visited the health centre and expressed his condolences to the victim's family, announced a day of mourning in the town, starting at noon.

"We must lament this tragic event on a day that was expected to be very different, as the mother's sister was visiting from Córdoba to spend an afternoon with the family, which ended in this outcome. There is total consternation in the municipality," added the mayor.
