Three Years in Prison for Man Who Attempted to Kill His Roommate with a Machete in Novelda

The Alicante Provincial Court, Third Section, has sentenced a 37-year-old Algerian man to three years in prison for attempting to kill his roommate in Novelda with a large machete. The accused repeatedly stabbed the victim with this knife, measuring 16.5 cm in length, in the left side, arm, and hand, causing significant injuries.

Justice has sentenced him for attempted homicide, corresponding to articles 138, 16, and 62 of the Penal Code, to three years in prison, and maintains a restraining order prohibiting him from approaching within 500 meters of the victim for five years. Additionally, he is required to compensate the victim with 30,000 euros and the Department of Health with 20,129.35 euros for hospital expenses.

The incident occurred on July 1, 2023, in an apartment on Aspe Avenue in Novelda. There, the accused lived with another man, aged 33. They had an argument over rent, at which point the accused used a large machete to attack the victim, stabbing him multiple times in the left side, arm, and hand, attempting to kill him.
