Firefighters from the Provincial Fire Consortium of the Alicante Provincial Council were busy this Saturday, 25th January. Three mountain rescues and a truck fire on the A7 were the most notable operations carried out by the firefighters during the day.

The first intervention occurred around 11 a.m., when they received a call about a cyclist who had veered off the road on the CV-73, Dénia, and had fallen down a four-metre ravine. The 20-year-old British man sustained severe injuries to his left leg and hip.

Several fire crews from Dénia accessed the accident site via the road. Once the injured person was located, they immobilised him on a stretcher and transported him to the medical helicopter waiting on the road for his transfer to the hospital. The firefighters' operation concluded two hours later, at 1:24 p.m.

Two Disoriented Hikers

Less than 15 minutes had passed when they received another alert, this time on the northern slope of Maigmó. Two women, aged 30 and 40, were trapped on the mountain, disoriented and stranded without the possibility of descending. The Consortium's team activated the helicopter and rescue team.

Once the hikers were located, the rescuers lifted them to the aircraft. Neither of the women sustained injuries, so they were transported to a location near the starting point of their route, according to the Consortium.

At 2:22 p.m., the last alert came in. A truck carrying non-hazardous waste was travelling on the A-7 near Monforte del Cid when the cabin caught fire. By the time the firefighters arrived, the vehicle was completely burnt out. Fortunately, the driver escaped unharmed.
