La Federation of People with Physical and Organic Disabilities of the Province of Alicante (Cocemfe Alicante) has publicly denounced the "serious inaccessibility situation" faced by people with reduced mobility at the Ciudad Jardín Health Centre. The organisation has called for the repair of the elevator connecting the two floors of the building, which has been out of service for over three months.

This centre houses various medical consultations on its upper floor, which are currently inaccessible to many users. As a temporary measure, some patients are being attended to on the ground floor, but there have already been falls and accidents on the stairs, resulting in physical injuries, the organisation warns.

"This situation not only violates the law but also endangers the health, dignity, and autonomy of people with disabilities," emphasise Cocemfe Alicante, who remind that Royal Legislative Decree 1/2013, which approves the General Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, mandates universal accessibility in all public buildings since December 4, 2017.

The federation demands an immediate response from the regional administration, specifically the Department of Health, to resolve a problem they consider "a form of direct discrimination." They specifically call for the urgent repair of the elevator and a comprehensive technical inspection of the building to verify compliance with current regulations. Additionally, they have demanded that the Department "assume its responsibility and take measures to prevent this situation from recurring in other centres."

From the organisation, they stress that "accessibility is not an option or a privilege: it is a legal and human right," and reiterate their commitment to denouncing and highlighting all situations that threaten the equality, freedom, and dignity of the community.
