Six people, aged between 21 and 47, have been arrested in Elda by the National Police as alleged responsible for drug trafficking offenses, electricity fraud, and belonging to a criminal group.

A patrol of the National Police, while performing public safety duties, came across an illegal marijuana plantation in a house in this Alicante municipality. During the route, the officers saw three cars parked illegally that provided the clue.

Upon observing the vehicles, the officers approached and with each step noticed a strong smell of marijuana that seemed to come from where they were parked. Initially, they could not determine if the smell emanated from the cars or the surrounding houses.

The occupants of these vehicles did notice, meanwhile, the police presence and two cars drove away to distance themselves from the area. The officers, however, managed to intercept one of the cars.

The National Police discovered at that moment that its driver carried a large amount of cash, although they did not find drugs inside the vehicle. This served to gather "clear indications" that he might be there trying to acquire drugs.

Vigilant Attitudes

The situation led to a new deployment of Local Police officers to gather more information. At that moment, they noticed a person acting vigilantly who, upon realizing their presence, began making insistent hand gestures, indicating towards a street where the cars were parked.

This behavior clearly intended to alert those inside the house to leave the premises. Six people came out, all intercepted by the National Police officers.

The officers assigned to the Narcotics Group of the Police Station supported the intervention. They also noticed clear indications that inside the house there might be an 'indoor' marijuana plantation. Therefore, they requested a search warrant from the court.

49 plants and 167 branches with drying buds

The officers were able to enter the house and cleared the suspicions. Inside, they found a marijuana plantation where they seized a total of 49 plants in various growth stages and 167 branches with drying buds.

The house has two rooms equipped with transformers and lights, which create an "optimal" temperature and humidity environment for the growth and flowering of marijuana plants. Additionally, the property was equipped with a complete air and extraction system.

The electricity supplier also confirmed the existence of an illegal connection to the power grid to supply energy to the various equipment of this illicit cultivation.

The six people arrested, all Spanish nationals and alleged responsible for the cultivation, have been brought before the Elda Court of Instruction on duty.
