Alberto (a fictitious name) visited an adult content website. At that moment, he clicked on a woman's photograph and an automatic message appeared on his screen. The text informed him that he had requested the sexual services of the woman in the image.

This resident of a town in Alicante was frightened upon reading the message and deleted the conversation. However, his personal data was leaked and he began receiving blackmail through a well-known instant messaging application.

The senders of these messages, which Alberto received on his phone, pretended to be representatives of escort agencies and told him he had wasted one of the women's time. Therefore, they extorted him to pay 1,500 euros as compensation.

After this initial payment, the threats and extortion messages continued on Alberto's phone. The supposed pimps coerced him into making another transfer of a thousand euros under the threat of going to his house and settling the debt with a beating if he did not make the payment.

Many more payments followed these two. The extortionists sent Alberto videos with images of people being tortured, intending to make the victim believe he was dealing with a dangerous criminal group.

Alberto made all these payments to different bank accounts. However, there came a point when the victim could no longer afford more amounts and decided to go to the National Police Station in Elda to report the incidents.

The Elda agents began the investigation at that moment, when the victim reported receiving threats from supposed pimps of escort agencies after viewing prostitution ads.

The investigation by the Judicial Police determined that these ads placed on various internet contact pages were fake. The photographs, including the one Alberto clicked on, aimed to capture people's phone numbers to later extort them.

As a result of this investigation, the National Police learned of more victims located in other autonomous communities, such as Catalonia, Andalusia, and other parts of the Valencian Community.

After gathering various leads and conducting the necessary investigative work, the National Police agents in Elda managed to uncover the true identity of the individuals behind the reported extortions.

They are two men aged 22 and 41 located in the town of Olot, in Girona. Following a police operation in which the collaboration of the Judicial Police of that locality was requested, both criminals were arrested.

The detainees have been brought before the Court of First Instance and Instruction on duty in the town of Olot. The National Police warn that in the event of receiving threatening messages from strangers, no payment should be made, and victims should go to police stations to file the corresponding complaint.
