The Alicante Provincial Fire Brigade Consortium has devised a special emergency device to enhance its operations and ensure a quicker and more effective response to fires and incidents that may occur in the province during the upcoming summer months.
Three fixed teams and four itinerant ones, along with the addition of a second helicopter, make up this summer service, which also includes the use of drones for forest surveillance. The operation, with an investment of nearly one million euros, will be active from June 16 to September 17, and includes the implementation of night teams due to atmospheric conditions, according to the Provincial Council.
"As every summer, from the Alicante Provincial Council, we increase resources and intensify our firefighters' service to provide a faster and more effective response," stated the deputy responsible for the area, Francisco Cano. With this measure, he adds, "we improve intervention times and adapt to the changes that occur in our province during this period."
Thus, once again, night teams will be deployed in case of the threat of dry storms, consisting of a corporal, three firefighters, and a vehicle, who will carry out surveillance and prevention tasks in coordination with the State Meteorological Agency, as well as interventions.
The special operation for this summer also includes the deployment of three fixed teams, one in Santa Pola -Baix Vinalopó-, another in Pilar de la Horadada -Vega Baja-, and a final one in Xàbia -Marina Alta-, which, for twelve hours a day, between 10:00 and 22:00, will attend to emergencies that occur in the mentioned municipalities and their immediate surroundings. Each will be composed of a corporal, three firefighters, a communications operator, and a vehicle.
Additionally, for the fourth consecutive year, the Provincial Consortium will incorporate two to four itinerant teams that will, on a rotating basis, cover the operational areas of Marina Baixa, Vinalopó, Vega Baja, the Mountain, and L'Alacantí. These teams, consisting of a sergeant, two to four corporals, and six to twelve firefighters, will be active from 10:00 to 20:00, according to the same sources.
Finally, as has been done since 2020, the Alicante Provincial Council will include a second helicopter in its fleet, capable of carrying three passengers and a pilot, which, along with the one operating throughout the year, will remain at the Central Park of San Vicent del Raspeig. This aerial means will be primarily used for the detection, coordination, and management of forest fires, as well as in handling major emergencies.
