The first fully electric pickup with standard all-wheel drive in Europe, the MAXUS eTERRON 9, has received the highest five-star rating from Euro NCAP, awarded by the safety programme under the latest 2024 protocol. This makes it the first electric pickup to receive this accolade since the introduction of the new testing programme in 2020.
The model excelled in the categories of adult occupant protection, scoring 91 points, a figure unmatched by any other five-star pickup in its class, and pedestrian protection, with 84 points, being the only vehicle in its category to achieve this score.
Regarding adult occupant protection, the eTERRON 9 is based on an exclusive electric platform offering advanced safety features, comprehensive driver assistance systems, a robust structure, and cutting-edge technologies that provide optimal protection for passengers and pedestrians. The hybrid steel and aluminium body, with over 73% high and ultra-high strength steel, contributes to the high level of safety in the event of a collision. The ladder frame and self-supporting body are joined to form a unit that optimally distributes the impact force generated in the event of a collision. Additionally, it has been designed from the outset to provide adequate protection for the other vehicle in the event of an impact, which is precisely one of the requirements of the current Euro NCAP testing procedure.
As for pedestrian protection, its excellent score is due to the fact that, being a pickup with a front trunk (frunk), it features a three-layer structure in the cavity of the grille panel area and an L-shaped hood compression structure, which reduces the risk of head and leg injuries to pedestrians.
