Third rescue of hikers injured in the mountains of Alicante in less than a week. The Alpha 01 helicopter of the Provincial Firefighters has once again flown over the province to rescue another victim high in the mountains.
It was during midday this Saturday when the Firefighters of the Consortium received the alert of an injured woman on the Faro del Albir route, "reaching the governor's height," according to sources from the body.
The injured 68-year-old woman had a possible Achilles tendon fracture, which made it impossible for her to continue the mountain trail.
Thus, the special rescue group of the Provincial Firefighters Consortium was deployed to this area of l'Alfàs del Pi in the Alpha 01. Once the woman was located, they descended to her position and placed a splint on her.
Once the injured woman was stabilised, the Firefighters lifted her with a crane to the helicopter, which transported her to the San Vicente park, where a Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance awaited her.
The mountain rescues began at the start of this week, with a 40-year-old woman with a fractured leg in the Cova de l'Aigua, on the Montgó mountain in Dénia. The Alpha 01 was dispatched there to assist the injured woman.
The second rescue took place this Friday in Serra Gelada, where a 66-year-old Norwegian woman had a possible ankle fracture after a fall. This prevented her from continuing the hike, and the firefighters rescued her with the helicopter.
The Provincial Firefighters Consortium also attended a fatal accident on the road in less than a week. It happened last Easter Sunday, in the Mascarat tunnel.
A 20-year-old young man veered into the opposite lane of the N-332 road and collided with a group of cyclists. One of them, Jagoba E., died after being thrown over the guardrail, while his son suffered a femur fracture.
Upon receiving the alert, the Firefighters sent an Alpha 09 helicopter to attend to the victims. This aerial vehicle is medicalised and can act as an ambulance. It is mainly deployed to traffic accidents.
