These are the school holidays for the 2025/2026 academic year in Alicante

The 2024/2025 school year is nearing its end in Alicante. Boys and girls will finish their classes next Wednesday, June 18, when the Hogueras de San Juan of Alicante take to the streets. This way, the city's youngsters can fully enjoy the official festivities.

However, the authorities have already started planning the next academic year 2025/2026, which will begin next September. Up to 14 schools in Alicante will be refurbished to welcome students. Moreover, the School Council, which met this Monday, has announced the school holidays for the students.

This information is crucial for parents, who will need to request days off work or find someone to take care of the children. Thus, the Municipal School Council approved this Monday to propose as non-school days for the next academic year 2025-2026 the 10th of October, 1st of April, and 19th of June. Additionally, it has been decided to change the non-school day of San Vicente (28th of April) to that of Santa Faz, which is on the 16th of April.

The Councillor for Education, Mari Carmen de España, explains that the selected and agreed local non-school days for the school calendar coincide with holidays. For instance, Friday, October 10th, following the regional holiday of Nou d'Octubre, will allow educational centres to have a long weekend.

Meanwhile, April 1st is Holy Wednesday, which allows the holidays to start a day earlier, enabling children to participate in the processions of one of the major days of the Alicante Easter. June 19th brings forward the start of the summer school holidays, coinciding with the Hogueras festival.

On the other hand, the change from the San Vicente holiday to the Santa Faz holiday is something that happens every year, except in those years when Santa Faz falls on a holiday, as it did in 2025.

The proposal from the government team, agreed upon and endorsed by the Municipal School Council, will be forwarded to the Department of Education, which will be responsible for the final approval of the school calendar.
