The Department of Health issues a warning in several regions due to the risk of high temperatures

Persistent heat continues to affect the province of Alicante. Although the heatwave is expected to end this Monday, the region remains under high temperatures after breaking several records in what is set to be the hottest June in history, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

The peak heat was reached this Sunday, but the high temperatures will persist on Monday. The Department of Health has released a list of municipalities in the province of Alicante that are under red and orange alerts due to the risk of elevated temperatures.

In fact, since Aemet has activated a yellow alert for this Monday across the entire Alicante territory for maximum temperatures that could exceed 37-38 degrees in the pre-coastal areas, with a significant impact in the interior of the province.

The municipalities under red alert are as follows:

Red Alert

  • Marina Alta: Beniarbeig, Ondara, Els Poblets, Sanet y Negrals, El Verger

  • El Comtat: Alcosser, L'Alqueria d'Asnar

  • La Vega Baja: Benferri, Bigastro, Callosa de Segura, Cox, Granja de Rocamora, Redován, San Isidro

The municipalities under orange alert are as follows:

Orange Alert

  • La Vega Baja: Albatera, Benejúzar, Catral, Dolores, Rafal

  • El Comtat: Beniarrés, Benilloba, Benimarfull, Muro de Alcoi

  • Marina Alta: L'Atzúbica, Benidoleig, Benimeli, Dénia, Murla, Orba, Pedreguer, Pego, El Ràfol d'Almúnia, Sagra, Tormos

Heat in Alicante

The week begins in the province of Alicante with an alert for high temperatures, which will push the mercury close to 40º, similar to what occurred this past weekend. The State Meteorological Agency has planned to activate the alert for high temperatures between 12 and 20 hours, both in the northern and southern coastal areas.

In the northern coastal area, maximum temperatures are expected to reach 38º, and in the south, 37º. In both regions, the minimum temperatures at night will also be "significantly high," announces Aemet.
