Alicante concluded the month of May with the warmest days in history for this month and has begun June, the month of the Hogueras de San Juan, with a similar situation. Despite a clear and sunny start to Tuesday, with spectacular sunshine and summer temperatures, the weather is set to change dramatically this afternoon.

The Spanish Meteorological Agency (Aemet) announces that the passage of an Atlantic trough and the likely formation of a small dana within it will cause instability that could bring severe storms with the risk of hail to the province of Alicante.

From midday, cloud development is expected with showers and storms in wide interior areas. In many interior regions, they are likely to become severe and occasionally accompanied by hail and very strong gusts.

For this reason, Aemet has issued a yellow alert in the interior of the province of Alicante from 4 p.m. this Tuesday until midnight in several interior regions.

The warning affects both Vinalopó Alto and Medio, as well as L'Alcoià and El Comtat. It even extends to parts of the L'Alacantí region.

Regarding temperatures, the highs will moderate compared to previous days. Generally, the lows will decrease in the southern half of the peninsula and remain mostly unchanged elsewhere.

Aemet indicates that on Wednesday, easterly winds will prevail in the eastern Mediterranean area.
