The first heatwave of the summer has arrived. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has warned of the arrival of a hot and dry air mass from the Sahara, which will also bring haze, raising temperatures for several days. The hot spell is expected to last until at least Tuesday.
Although the weekend will be the peak of this heat episode, with temperatures nearing 40 degrees in Alicante, the Ministry of Health has already issued the first warning, placing several municipalities in the province on orange alert for high temperatures.
Emergency services have released a list of numerous municipalities in Alicante on "medium risk" alert due to the high temperatures expected this Friday. These municipalities, by regions, are as follows:
Marina Alta: L'Adzúbia, Beniarbeig, Benidoleig, Benimeli, Ondara, Orba, Pego, Els Poblets, El Verger, El Ràfol d'Almúnia, Sagra, Sanet y Negrals, and Tormos.
El Comtat: Beniarrés, Benimarfull, Alcosser.
La Vega Baja: Bigrastro, Rafal, Catral, Redován, Callosa del Segura, Beniferri, Cox, Albatera, Granja de Rocamora.
Saturday is expected to be even hotter, with several municipalities set to receive a red alert from the Ministry of Health for elevated heat risk.
Due to this heat episode, emergency services urge caution during the midday hours, between 12 and 5 PM. They recommend drinking water and fluids while avoiding caffeinated or sugary drinks. Additionally, they advise taking care of the elderly and young children and discourage intense physical exercise during the hottest hours.
