The Villena City Council has announced the resolution of public holidays and weekends when shops can open, adopting the proposal submitted by the Local Trade Council and communicated to the Territorial Trade Directorate. This year, the local holiday on September 10th is included as openable, replacing July 6th from previous years.
Furthermore, it is proposed to open on alternate days during the celebration of the Moors and Christians festival in Villena, from September 4th to 9th, 2025, with the following schedules set during Easter and the Patron Saint Festivities for the current year. On September 6th and 8th, as in previous years, a commercial schedule until noon is proposed, with closure on September 5th, 7th, and 9th.
Considering the decisions agreed upon in the Villena Local Trade Council and based on the Resolution of September 16th, 2024, by the Ministry of Innovation, Industry, Trade, and Tourism, which determines the Sundays and public holidays suitable for commercial practice in 2025, shops with a sales area exceeding 300 m² may open to the public on the following Sundays and public holidays:
The City Council reminds that establishments without time freedom can open 11 Sundays and public holidays during 2025, taking this calendar into account, and in case of opening on permitted days, they must adequately inform the public of their decision to make use of these commercial authorizations and the opening hours to the public.
Only businesses with time freedom, meaning they can open any day of the year, will be able to open outside the established dates. These will be shops with less than 300 m² of sales and exhibition area and not belonging to companies or distribution groups, shops dedicated to selling bread, pastries, prepared dishes, press, fuel and carburants, or flowers and plants, as well as convenience stores, which are multipurpose establishments with an area of less than 500 m² that distribute their offer similarly among books, newspapers and magazines, food, toys, etc., and station and transport means stores.
