High temperatures characteristic of summer not only affect cars but also motorcycles. There are four motorcycle components that are most susceptible to damage during this season, and in some cases, they could lead to repair costs of up to €6,000. Prevention is better than cure, as proper maintenance can prevent expenses that could significantly impact drivers' wallets.

The first is the coolant. Many modern motorcycles have a cooling system that uses a liquid to keep the engine at an appropriate temperature. If this liquid leaks from the circuit or the reservoir, the engine can overheat or even seize, necessitating its replacement. This process can cost between €1,000 and €6,000 depending on the model and the severity of the damage, according to Euromaster.
The engine air filter is also a concern. Dust, suspended particles, salt, and sand, especially in areas near the sea, can clog the engine's air filter. When this filter is very dirty, it can affect engine performance and may even require replacement, with costs ranging from €1,000 to €6,000.
Chain transmission is common in high-displacement motorcycles, especially on long summer routes. The chain and sprockets wear out with use, but this wear accelerates if they are not well lubricated or if dirt, sand, or soil accumulates. It is recommended to lubricate every 300-500 km and keep it clean, especially after riding in the rain. Replacing the transmission can cost between €100 and €400.
Lastly, do not forget the tyres. Extreme heat can cause tyres to run with excessive pressure, deforming them and reducing grip on the asphalt, increasing the risk of accidents. Additionally, incorrect pressure can shorten the tyre's lifespan, which is usually between 3,000 and 10,000 kilometres. If they are too deformed or worn, replacement can cost between €100 and €140 per wheel.
