The Alicante Young Farmers Association (Asaja) is preparing to celebrate its Alicante Agriculture Night on Thursday, 26th June. The event has become essential for the sector and will once again bring together institutional representatives, agricultural entrepreneurs, cooperatives, and quality figures, among many other professionals in the field.
Six initiatives will be recognised in the 15th edition. This edition will be marked by the severe crises facing the sector, such as plagues, low prices, unfair competition, and drought. During the traditional event, fundamental topics such as digitalisation, generational change, and crop profitability will also be discussed.
The evening will focus on the main protagonists of the night, six awardees recognised by Asaja for their advancements and contributions to the Alicante agricultural sector. Among them are initiatives that support agricultural development and the vision to build a profitable model for the future.
The awardees are as follows:
YOUNG FARMER AWARD 2024: José Daniel Rodríguez Pacheco (Sax), an organic almond farmer, has transformed and expanded his father's farms. Despite having a business with his wife, he couldn't give up his great passion: agriculture. He currently owns a mechanised farm and works hard to sustain a crop facing challenges like pests and low market prices.
+WOMAN AWARD 2024: Marta Gutiérrez Blanco (Los Montesinos), founder of 'limoneta', a personal project leading family-origin agricultural operations centred around lemons. She also works to highlight all the work and challenges through social media.
PROMOTION AND IMPULSE TO AGRICULTURE AWARD 2024: The Teulada-Moraira Town Council will receive this award for its firm commitment to the Muscat grape, thanks to its direct aid of 500,000 euros to prevent the vines from dying during the drought.
AGRICULTURAL ENTREPRENEUR AWARD 2024: Aleixandre Beltrà Ivars (Alcoy), an agronomist and third generation at the helm of Mas de Roc Cooperativa Valenciana, dedicated to cherry cultivation.
LIVESTOCK AWARD 2024: Jesús Toledo López (Pinoso), a traditional livestock farmer with a herd of Murciano-Granadina goats producing "extremely high-quality" milk used to make cheese.
SUSTAINABILITY AND AGRO-FOOD QUALITY AWARD 2024: Vaquería Hermanos Plaza (Villena) is a family project spanning three generations focused on the traditional dairy sector. It is, in fact, the only one in the province supplying Danone. Among its projects is the creation of a biogas plant to reduce emissions.
