The Department of Urban Mobility of the Alicante City Council will kick off activities this Monday, September 16th, to mark European Mobility Week, which will run until Sunday, September 29th, as announced by the City Council.

La Viña Square will host bicycle maintenance and scooter handling workshops, which will be repeated on subsequent days until Saturday at various locations throughout the city. Pedestrian routes will also commence on Tuesday, and the central events will take place next weekend with the coastal bike path. The program will conclude on the 29th with the celebration of the 11th Bike Day.

European Mobility Week aims to promote more sustainable mobility and encourage public transportation, personal mobility vehicles, and pedestrian routes as healthy alternatives to private vehicle use.

Activities will start this Monday, the 16th, with a new edition of bicycle repair advice workshops and bike registration in different city squares from 9 AM to 2 PM and from 5 PM to 8 PM. As with all activities, participation is free of charge. Interested individuals can join at La Viña Square on Monday, at the Teulada market tent on Tuesday the 17th, at the intersection of Deportista Sergio Cardell roundabout with Historiador Vicente Ramos on Wednesday the 18th, on Padre Esplá Street on Thursday the 19th, and at City Hall Square on Friday the 20th.

Workshops

The Councilor for Urban Mobility, Carlos de Juan, explained that "this year we are continuing in parallel with last year's successful edition of workshops for learning to ride electric scooters. These will be held on the same days and at the same locations, offering participants the opportunity to learn how to use them correctly in city streets."

The schedule for these workshops is from 5 PM to 8 PM and is aimed at those over 16 years old. The workshops will include a theoretical part covering topics such as helmet use, speeds, minimum age requirements, and mobile phone and headphone usage; as well as a practical part featuring a feasible route accompanied by the Local Police Cycling Brigade. Each free workshop can accommodate up to 10 participants who must register in advance via https://semanamovilidadalicante.com/patinetes-electricos/.

From September 17th to 19th, pedestrian routes will be promoted. On Tuesday the 17th, a route through unique central parks will start from Paseíto de Ramiro Square; on Wednesday the 18th, a route starting from Marina Station stop will continue along the greenway and beaches of Almadraba and Albufereta; and on Thursday the 19th, a third route through the historic center and Santa Cruz neighborhood will start from City Hall Square. Registration is free at https://semanamovilidadalicante.com/itinerarios-peatonales/.

Councilor Carlos de Juan encouraged all residents of Alicante "to join in European Mobility Week activities which are completely free and open to everyone individually or as a family to promote more sustainable and healthy mobility practices." "Walking through the city, learning to ride scooters and other personal mobility vehicles, and promoting public transportation are goals of these events. We encourage residents to leave their private cars parked to improve air quality in our city and make our environment more livable and sustainable," emphasized De Juan.
