Months of nerves and hard work culminated on the night of Saturday, April 26, for Terelu Campos and the entire cast of 'Santa Lola' with the premiere of her first show, selling out all tickets at the Teatro Zorrilla in Valladolid. The debut of María Teresa Campos' daughter on stage was a resounding success, with an enthusiastic audience that erupted in applause, giving a standing ovation at the end of the play.
'Santa Lola', a comedy that begins with the sudden death of a young woman during her bachelorette party, allowed Terelu to face, for the first time professionally and in a leading role, the demanding judgment of live theatre. The production, conceived by Lara Dibildos and directed by César Lucendo, could not have had a better start: sold-out seats, endless ovations, and an emotional Terelu who could not hold back tears at the end of the performance.
The presenter, who had to juggle rehearsals for the play with her participation in the reality show 'Supervivientes', experienced months filled with anxiety and tension. In fact, she left the last episode of 'De Viernes' to travel to Valladolid and prepare for the premiere, confessing that she was "terrified" about her imminent debut.
During the performance, everything went smoothly, and the presenter had the support of friends and family. In the front rows, though discreetly seated a few rows back, was her closest circle: her daughter Alejandra Rubio, her son-in-law Carlo Costanzia, her sister Carmen Borrego, and her brother-in-law José Carlos Bernal. The pride was visible on her family's faces, especially on Alejandra's, who was moved by her mother's new project.
Part of the play takes place in Saint Peter's office, at the gates of heaven, and its set design includes nods to figures like Lola Flores, El Fary, or Paco Valladares, a great friend of the Campos family. Given the setting at Teatro Zorrilla, a tribute to Valladolid native Concha Velasco was not missed, with her image prominently placed on the saint's desk. In a prominent spot, the photographs of María Teresa Campos and Laura Valenzuela, mothers of the protagonist and the producer of the play, also shone.
After the performance, Carmen Borrego's sister returned to greet the stage visibly moved alongside her colleague César Lucendo, who did not hesitate to embrace her in a supportive gesture.
Upon leaving the theatre, Terelu posed smiling for the media with a large bouquet of yellow roses (her favourite flowers) given to her by Lara Dibildos right next to the sign announcing "sold-out seats". Alejandra Rubio's mother could not hide her joy. "I just wanted the audience to laugh and have a good time. When you do a comedy, that's all you want. The photos in the set were a beautiful tribute, but emotionally I had to disconnect to keep going," she told the microphones of the numerous media gathered.
Lara Dibildos, responsible for this production, also could not hide her satisfaction: "Terelu has a wonderful comedic talent and a lot of truth in her acting. It has been a complete surprise," she assured minutes before the premiere. A personal bet on her friend that has turned out to be a complete success.
With 'Santa Lola', Terelu inaugurates a new professional stage as it is not a one-off performance, but she has new dates confirmed: on May 11 she will return to Teatro Zorrilla, on May 24 she will travel to Murcia, and on September 11 she will land in Granada.
