This television season will not be marked by many new releases. The small screen is betting on formats familiar to the general public, along with the return of past programs seeking success again in 2024.
The most imminent release will be the ninth edition of 'Masterchef Celebrity'. Contestants on La 1 will include Pitingo, Pocholo Martínez-Bordiú, Cristina Cifuentes, Hiba Abouk, Francis Lorenzo, María León, Pelayo Díaz, Marina Rivers, Inés Hernand, Juan Luis Cano, and Topacio Fresh, among others. The public broadcaster will also launch 'Las Abogadas', a drama inspired by the real-life story of the Atocha lawyers (Manuela Carmena, Cristina Almeida, Lola González, and Paca Sauquillo) during the end of the dictatorship and the beginning of democracy. In the entertainment segment, TVE is also preparing a new talent show to search for copla singers and the return of 'That's My Jam', which moves from Movistar Plus+ to La 1 with Arturo Valls at the helm. Comedian David Broncano will also transition from the pay platform to challenge Pablo Motos' 'El Hormiguero'. A new Spanish serial ('Valle Salvaje') is planned for the afternoons and a cooking contest for lunchtime presented by Lydia Bosch and Germán González.
Atresmedia's channel will continue betting on its established products. The major entertainment bet will be 'La Voz', whose new edition will feature singers Luis Fonsi, Antonio Orozco, Pablo López, and Malú as coaches. The first premiere of the season will arrive on Wednesday, September 4th (10:50 PM) with 'López y Leal contra el canal', a format presented by Eva González in which Iñaki López and Roberto Leal will test their skills. Also scheduled is 'Emparejados' for Thursday the 5th, a special program hosted by former footballer Joaquín Sánchez with his wife Susana Saborido. Additionally, Antena 3 plans to air a special tournament of 'Pasapalabra' with four prime-time episodes where historic contestants will compete for a prize of 100,000 euros. 'Beguinas', a series inspired by beguinages—communities of women who since the 13th century have defended an alternative way of life independent of marriage and the Church—will be their national fiction bet.
The helicopter from 'Volando Voy' returns on Wednesday (10:50 PM) to Cuatro with Jesús Calleja. In its tenth season, the format will once again fly over rural Spain to bring viewers unique locations and stories. Another well-known program from the channel, '¿Quién quiere casarse con mi hijo?', also returns to Mediaset (Monday, September 9th) with Luján Argüelles as master of ceremonies and five mothers helping their sons find love. Following the recent afternoon premiere of 'Lo sabe, no lo sabe' with Xuso Jones as presenter, '¡Boom!' with Christian Gálvez—previously aired on Antena 3 with Juanra Bonet—will join soon.
Mediaset is preparing a significant batch of new releases. The first to arrive was 'Babylon Show', Carlos Latre's program for access prime time. Actor José Coronado returns tonight (10:50 PM) with the final season of the series 'Entrevías'. Also returning is 'Gran Hermano' (Thursday, September 5th) with an edition aiming to go back to its roots with anonymous contestants. Jorge Javier Vázquez will host the galas while Ion Aramendi will handle Sunday debates. This Wednesday, Luján Argüelles takes charge of 'El Rival Más Débil', the iconic quiz show originally aired by TVE in the early 2000s. This version will feature celebrities and air in prime time. Later on, also hosted by Jorge Javier Vázquez, a new phase of 'Hay una cosa que te quiero decir' will debut. 'Got Talent', featuring Tamara Falcó as a new judge, will premiere on Saturday, September 7th.
Chef Alberto Chicote leads the new season of 'Pesadilla en la cocina', which premieres Tuesday at 10:50 PM. The first episode will feature a restaurant in Barcelona. Soon to come is the Spanish adaptation of 'The Piano', an international format hosted in Spain by singer Ruth Lorenzo. British composer Mika and Malaga artist Pablo López will be judges in this competition seeking the best pianist. 'Salvados', 'La Sexta Clave', and 'Equipo de Investigación' will remain on air.
