The University of Alicante (UA) has taken teaching outdoors. At least temporarily, after setting up a new outdoor classroom, the result of a temporary construction workshop organized by the Chair of Sustainable Architecture. The project, carried out with the participation of Master's in Architecture students, involved creating a tensioned structure with mesh fabrics, located in the pine grove between the highway and the parking lot next to the Polytechnic IV building.
Antonio Maciá Mateu, director of the Chair of Sustainable Architecture, explained that the structure provides a suitable space for holding classes on sunny days, harmoniously integrating with the natural environment of the campus. The main purpose of this construction is to provide an area of protection against the sun, allowing its use by the university community for academic activities, meetings, or as a rest and enjoyment area in an outdoor environment.
"This week we held classes there and it was a different experience, among the pines and under the protection of this structure. It is not designed for rainy days, but it is an ideal solution to make use of other campus spaces sustainably," highlighted Maciá.
The outdoor classroom reinforces the University of Alicante's commitment to sustainability and innovation in its educational spaces, promoting new ways of teaching and living in contact with nature. This initiative is part of a series of activities promoted by the Chair of Sustainable Architecture, aiming to explore sustainable alternatives in the design and use of spaces.
