Vox decided on Tuesday to suspend the government agreement it has with the PP in the City Council of Ciudad Real since the last municipal elections in 2023. The reason: a colouring booklet given to schoolchildren visiting the Town Hall as a gift. 'Mandalas Notebook' is the title of this publication, which showcases different types of families beyond the traditional one formed by a man and a woman.
The booklet differentiates between single-parent, same-sex, blended, or multiracial families. According to the deputy mayor of this town, Ricardo Chamorro of Vox, who is also a national deputy for this party in the province of Ciudad Real, "these booklets are a form of indoctrination marked by gender ideology, something we do not share." Vox requested the withdrawal of these booklets at the meeting of the Local Government Board of the City Council of Ciudad Real, also arguing that many parents had complained, and faced with the refusal of their government partner, they decided to break the agreement. According to Chamorro, it is the parents who should educate their children.
Meanwhile, the Councillor for Education, María José Escobedo, responds that the booklet, whose cover describes it as "a fantastic way to normalize diversity, co-responsibility, and equality," aims to spread values and respect individual freedom. Amidst this controversy, the PSOE, in opposition in Ciudad Real, described the situation on Tuesday as "unprecedented" and stated that "this shows that Vox is a homophobic and racist party."
