The suspected shooter in the incident that occurred this Sunday in the Northern Zone of Alicante has been arrested by the National Police. The suspect was released after appearing before the duty court as the Public Prosecutor found no evidence of his involvement in the shooting.
Officers from the Violent Crime Group of the Judicial Police Brigade detained him this Thursday, five days after the incident involving a group of Arab citizens, considering him the alleged perpetrator of the gunfire.
The investigation is ongoing to determine if the arrested individual is also responsible for the knife wounds to the victim's neck, the only injury sustained, as the bullets did not hit the victim, according to the same sources. The lack of cooperation from witnesses and those involved, common in such incidents, complicates the investigation. The National Police do not rule out further arrests in the coming days.
The incident occurred on Geógrafo Rey Martí Street in Alicante, near Orán Square, where a dangerous 18-year-old Algerian fugitive accused of murdering his roommate in France was also arrested this Thursday.
Initial investigations suggested the fugitive had left Saint-Étienne hours after committing the crime. Investigators reviewed numerous security camera images from bus and train stations but failed to locate him.
It appears he entered Spain through clandestine routes, ending his escape in Alicante on the same day the suspected shooter was apprehended. He is now in police custody awaiting extradition to France.
The motive for the murder remains unclear. Investigators are considering a possible drug-related vendetta, as drug remnants were found near the body.
