Changes in the Supercopa de España. The effects caused by the tragic DANA, which hit the Valencian Community and Castilla-La Mancha with particular severity, have led the Spanish Football Federation to change the order of the two semifinals of the tournament, which will once again be held in Saudi Arabia.
The ones to kick off the tournament will finally be Barça and Athletic, who will play the first semifinal on Wednesday, January 8 at 10 PM local time (8:00 PM in mainland Spain), while the Real Madrid-Mallorca match, initially scheduled for that day, will now take place on Thursday, the 9th at the same time.
This was announced by the Spanish Football Federation (FEF) after the sole judge of non-professional competitions decided in this manner to assist in the adjustment of the calendars due to the disruptions caused by the DANA.
The change of dates is due to the need to fit the Valencia-Real Madrid match, corresponding to the twelfth league day, into an extremely crowded calendar. The match was to be played on November 2 at Mestalla but had to be postponed due to the storm that severely hit the Valencian Community. It seems that this match will finally be held on Thursday, January 2 or Friday, January 3, which is why the semifinal between Real Madrid and Mallorca is moved to January 9, 2025.
The Supercopa de España will be held in the city of Jeddah, specifically at the King Abdullah Stadium, and will feature the top two finishers of the last league, Real Madrid and Barça, as well as the two finalists of the last edition of the Copa del Rey, Athletic and Mallorca.
