A week after the cremà, Alicante is already seeking its official bonfires for 2026. The submission period for sketches and models for the next festive season commenced on the morning of Tuesday, July 1.

Artists interested in competing with their projects for the official adult and children's bonfires can submit their proposals until July 15 at 1 p.m. at the Alicante Department of Festivities headquarters.

The budget allocated by the Alicante City Council for the official bonfires of 2026 is 143,500 euros. Of this, 118,500 is designated for the adult bonfire and 25,000 for the children's. These amounts are the same as in 2025.

Features and Requirements

The official adult bonfire must be no more than 20 metres high with a base of 12 by 12 metres, without both dimensions coinciding. The basic materials for its construction will be cardboard and wood. The plaques must be written in Spanish and Valencian, and the number of original ninots must be at least 28.

Meanwhile, the official children's bonfire will not exceed three metres in height, the same dimensions as the base. Cardboard and wood will also be the basic materials, with identical characteristics for the plaques. The number of ninots will be 18.

The adult bonfire must be fully erected by 6 a.m. on June 21; while the children's bonfire must be ready by the same time on June 20.

Official Bonfire Jury

The official bonfires of Alicante will be chosen by an expert jury selected by the Alicante City Council. Their members will follow evaluation criteria based on creativity, balance, proportionality, and originality. They will also consider modelling and colour schemes, as well as content and critique.

This is the second year that the Alicante City Council has brought forward the submission deadline for official bonfire sketches and models, a commitment maintained with the Guild of Artists.

With this, it is hoped that "proposals of the highest category for creations that represent the best promotion for the Official Festival and Alicante" will be presented, explained the Councillor for Festivities, Cristina Cutanda.
